The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a national park shared by South Africa and Botswana that combines two former national parks, the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa and the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana, the park covers 38 000 square kilometres.
The terrain is made up of red dunes with sparse vegetation cover. Linear dunes have formed under the influence of very strong winds, It is renowned for its birds of prey. Its emblem is the oryx gazelle, a species of bovid often considered to be an antelope.
